Modern Cloth Made Easy!
Modern Cloth Nappies or MCN are a new and improved version of what is now referred to as Traditional Cloth. Unfortunately with the dawn of MCN there has come a HUGE amount of confusion as to what nappy does what, and which is best for you. There are many types of nappies available and which one is right for you is really up to you and your baby. All nappies do however have the same 4 components. 1.Absorbency: at WeePantz, we choose to use bamboo for our absorbent fabric because it is simply the best product on the market for using in nappies being 5 times more absorbent than cotton and also very strong and durable as well as staying soft wash after wash. All nappies use some form of absorbent material whether it be bamboo, cotton, hemp, wool or microfibre. 2.Water Proofing: at WeePantz, all of our nappies have a layer of Polyurethane Laminate or "PUL" which is a waterproof but microporous, so it is not only waterproof but allows skin to breathe. Other nappies might use a wool, fleece or PUL cover instead. 3.Stay Dry Layer: at WeePantz, we use microfleece, a 100% polyester fabric which is treated with an anti-pill coating on one side. The basics of this is that polyester doesnt like liquid, so it pushes any wetness away from your baby's bottom and into the absorbent layer, and also leaves solid mess sitting on top for easy removal. 4.Closure: at WeePantz, we use snaps for our closing mechanism. But other closures might include velcro, pins or snapi fasteners. So that's the simple way of looking at what each nappy contains. Then comes the confusing part... what kind of nappy do I choose? There's pockets, AIO's, Fitteds, Pre-folds, flats... It can get very confusing, and really, until you find what "type" of nappy suits your routine and your baby's body it cant be dictated to you which to buy. At WeePantz we make All In One (AIO) and All In Two (AI2) nappies. Basically, these nappies go on just like a disposable nappy, are fastened at the front and have the inside "stay-dry" layer, an "absorbent" layer that is either sewn in or snaps in and out and either a hidden "Waterproof" layer or an exterior of plain PUL. There are, of course, many other styles of nappies to choose from and try, but we find that AIO's & AI2's are the easiest for midnight changes, and carers who might not be familiar with MCN such as Childcare centers or grandparents. Now that you know a very basic definition of MCN you might find it easier to navigate through the styles, shapes and types of nappies that are available to you, and also be informed of what you are buying when you purchase your WeePantz Nappies in our shop.
